JSW Infrastructure Limited commissions its first container terminal at NMPT

JSW Infrastructure Limited has commissioned its first container terminal at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) in Karnataka. The terminal project involves a phase-wise investment of Rs 3 billion to expand its capacity to 0.4 million twenty equipment units (TEUs) by financial year 2024. The commissioning of the container terminal at NMPT marks the foray of JSW Infrastructure into the container cargo business. The company has a 30-year concession agreement with NMPT for the said container terminal on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer basis. The terminal has a quay length of 350 metres and a backup storage area of 15.5 hectares. The terminal has a current cargo capacity of 0.24 million TEUs. Further, the terminal is designed to handle mainliner cargo vessels of up to 9,000 TEUs. Further, the mechanised container handling facility and increase in vessel size will provide inland water-based logistics support to improve trade in key hinterland markets.
