In a notable development, the electrification work on the 741 km long Roha-Thokur railway line doubling-cum-electrification project has been completed. With this, the entire project has been completed. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) granted clearance for the last Ratnagiri-Thivim section on March 28, 2022 post inspection on March 24, 2022. The electrification in the Konkan region has been challenging due to its difficult terrain and non-conducive atmosphere due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The project involved doubling and electrification of the existing 741 km long rail line between Roha, in Maharashtra, and Mangaluru, in Karnataka. It entailed an investment of Rs 12.87 billion.
