Domestic air passenger traffic witnesses increase in March 2022

Domestic air passenger traffic in India grew by 35 per cent to 10.6 million in March 2022 as compared to 7.8 million in March 2021. The capacity de­ployment of airlines rose to 80,217 in March 2022 from around 71,548 departures in March 2021. The average daily departure was up by 280 in Mar­ch 2022 from March 2021. This rise in passenger traffic has been driven by normalcy in airline operations, increased pace of vaccinations in the country, speedy abatement of the third wave of the pandemic and resumption of international operations. According to ICRA, domestic air passenger traffic is estimated to rise by 59 per cent in financial year 2022.
