Pune airport expansion project receives a major boost

The Pune airport expansion project has received a major boost after the Ministry of Defence agreed to lease 2.5 acres of defence land, as well as grant permission to begin work on the cargo terminal at the airport. The airport emerged as an important centre after stocks of the Covishield vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, were sent out. However, larger consignments of the vaccine are transported by road to Mumbai airport. The additional land will help Pune augment its cargo facility, and increase the volumes of the vaccine being transported.
