Cairn Vedanta makes oil discovery in OALP block in Barmer, Rajasthan

Cairn Oil & Gas, a Vedanta Group firm, has announced an oil discovery in the 542 square km RJ-ONHP-2017/1 block, located in Gudamalani and Choh­tan tehsils of Barmer district, Rajasthan. The company has notified the government and DGH of the discovery in exploratory well WM-Basal DD Fan-1, drilled in the aforementioned block. The discovery has been named “Durga”. Cairn Oil & Gas had won this block in the first bidding round of the OALP regime in 2018. The block lies in the vicinity of the prolific Rajasthan block, which produces about 150,000 bpd of oil and gas. The company plans to make investments worth $4 billion over the next three to four years to double its productivity.
