In another development, the South Western Railway (SWR) zone has registered originating revenue of Rs 43.85 billion till December 2021, 65 per cent higher than the revenue generated in the corresponding period of the previous year. The milestone has been achieved despite challenges posed by the pandemic. SWR has transported 31.64 mt freight in the said time period, which is 20 per cent higher as compared to freight loading in the previous year. The railway zone is focusing on digitialisation and 450 point-of-sale machines are being used on board to help ease transactions and also facilitate cashless and contactless transactions. Apart from this, 83 new automatic ticket vending machines have been commissioned across the zone.
