Madurai railway division registers significant growth in revenue

Reportedly, the Madurai railway division registered a revenue of Rs 5.1 billion in the April-December 2021 period, Rs 2.5 billion more than the revenue generated in the corresponding period of the previous year. The revenue generated includes Rs 2.81 billion in passenger traffic, Rs 1.91 billion in goods traffic and Rs 3.81 billion in other coaching and sundries. The division has loaded 1.76 mt of cargo till December 2021, as against the previous year’s loading of 1.7 mt. Further, electrification between Ma­­du­rai and Manamadurai has been completed in 2021-22 and electrification of the Tiruchirappalli-Karaikudi (91.2 km), Manamadurai-Rama­na­­thapuram (61 km), Palani-Pollachi (62.9 km), Kollam-Punalur (45 km), Manama­du­rai-Virudhunagar (66.5 km) stretches is expected to be completed by March 2022.
