JNPT handled 5.63 TEUs in CY 2021, registering a growth of 25.86 per cent

In a notable development, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) continued its steady surge in cargo handling in calendar year 2021, with a total container traffic of 5.63 million twentyfoot equivalent units (TEUs) as compared to 4.47 million TEUs in 2020, registering a growth of 25.86 per cent. The overall traffic of 76.14 mt and container traffic of 5.63 million TEUs was the highest in a year, ever since the port’s establishment. It also handled the highest exim container traffic of any Indian port. Also, JNPT commenced trial operations at its newly dedicated berth for coastal shipping under the Sagarmala programme, to provide an impetus to coastal cargo movement.
