TRAI has floated a consultation paper on the “Licensing Framework for Establishing Satellite Earth Station Gateways”. This move is in response to the limitations of DoT’s current licensing framework with respect to satellite services as there are no provisions for the usage of gateways by service providers established by a satellite constellation operator. TRAI has invited written comments from stakeholders by December 13, 2021 and counter-comments by December 27, 2021.
