During April-December 2021, the Indian major ports handled 529.34 million tonnes (mt) of traffic, compared to 478.01 mt in the corresponding period of 2020-21, registering an increase of 10.74 per cent. Port-wise, Deendayal port handled the maximum traffic at 96.53 mt, followed by Paradip port (83.6 mt) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (56.07 mt). With regard to commodities, petroleum, oil and lubricants accounted for the highest share in traffic at 9.6 per cent (162.52 mt), followed by containers and coal (thermal, steam, coking and others) at 23.94 per cent (124.53 mt) and 18.46 per cent (109.24 mt) respectively.
