In a notable development, Indian Railways (IR) registered freight loading of 117.34 mt in October 2021, 7.63 per cent higher than that (109.01 mt) in the corresponding period of the previous year. The revenue generated from freight loading stands at Rs 123.11 billion, 18.19 per cent higher than the revenue generated from freight loading in the corresponding period of the previous year (Rs 104.16 billion). The freight loading includes 54.65 mt of coal, 12.8 mt of iron ore, 6.3 mt of foodgrains, 4.18 mt of fertilisers, 3.97 mt of mineral oil and 7.37 mt of cement (excluding clinker) and 28.13 mt of other goods. The pandemic has been used by IR as an opportunity to improve all-round efficiency and performance.
