Domestic air passenger volume increases in October 2021

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, domestic air passenger volumes spiked 70.46 per cent in October 2021 over October 2020 to reach 8.99 million. Indigo flew 4.81 million passengers in October 2021, accounting for 53.5 per cent of the total domestic traffic. Air India transported 1.1 million passengers with an 11.8 per cent market share. Vistara and AirAsia India carried 0.7 million and 0.57 million passengers respectively in October 2021, while Go First and SpiceJet transported 0.88 million and 0.81 million passengers respectively, weaning away 9.8 per cent and 9 per cent of the total domestic passenger traffic. In terms of average on-time performance (OTP) or punctuality in operations at the four key airports – New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru – market leader IndiGo delivered the highest OTP at 88.8 per cent followed by Vistara with 88.1 per cent and AirAsia India with 86.9 per cent.
