Union cabinet approves PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on October 21, 2021 appro­ved the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), including the institutional framework for roll-outs, implementation, monitoring and the support mechanism. The NMP was inaugurated on October 13, 2021. Pe­gged to cost Rs 100 trillion, the scheme aims to set up multi-modal connectivity to various economic zones and a centralised portal to unite the infrastructural initiatives planned and initiated by 16 central ministries and departments. As part of the master plan, around 0.1 million km of road will be added in the next four years, to expand the NH network to around 0.2 million km. An Empowered Group of Secretaries headed by the Cabinet Sec­retary and secretaries of 18 ministries, and another multimodal Network Planning Group will be set up.
