The Railway Board approved procurement of 238 air-conditioned local trains (rolling stock) under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) on October 12, 2021. MUTP is being implemented by Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the MoR and the Maharashtra government, which works on various railway projects. It aims to improve the suburban network on a macro scale.
