IR freight figures continue to maintain high momentum in September 2021

 

Indian Railways (IR) freight figures continued to maintain high momentum in terms of earnings and loading during September 2021 despite the Covid-19 pandemic. IR freight loading for the month exceeded the freight loading and revenue generated for the corresponding period last year. During September 2021, IR freight loading stood at 106 million tonnes (mt), 3.62 per cent higher than the freight loading for the corresponding period last year (102.30 mt). In this period, IR generated revenue to the tune of Rs. 108.16 billion from freight loading, 9.19 per cent higher than freight earnings for the corresponding period last year (Rs. 99.06 billion). The commodities transported include 47.74 mt of coal, 11.24 mt of iron ore, 6.46 mt of food grains, 4.19 mt of fertilisers, 3.60 mt of mineral oil, 6.15 mt of cement (excluding clinker) and 26.62 mt of other material. Covid-19 has been used by IR as an opportunity to im­prove all-round efficiencies and performances.
