MNRE launches loan interest subvention scheme for WtE bio-methanation projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a loan interest subvention scheme in association with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the Global Environment Facility to provide financial assistance for innovative waste-to-energy (WtE) biomethanation projects and business models. Industrial organic WtE biomethanation projects are capital intensive and financially sensitive to operating costs and revenue. However, innovations in such projects would help improve the overall energy output and minimise the cost of energy generation. A geographic information system-based inventory tool of organic waste streams has also been launched to provide district-level estimates of the available urban and industrial organic waste and its energy generation potential across India.
