The central government on June 29, 2021 approved a proposal to extend the Delhi-Panipat regional rapid transit system (RRTS) project to Karnal. The feasibility of the project will be examined by October 2021. The project involves the development of a 103.02 km-long RRTS connecting Delhi to Panipat in Haryana. It will have 17 stations, including six in Delhi and 11 in Haryana. The project will be implemented in two stages – Sarai Kale Khan to Murthal, including Murthal Depot (58.28 km); and Murthal to Panipat, including Panipat Depot (44.74 Km).
