Major ports handled 180.61 mt during April-June 2021, an increase of 27 per cent

During April-June 2021, India’s major ports handled 180.61 million tonnes (mt) of traffic, compared to 142.03 mt in the corresponding period in 2020-21, registering an increase of 27.16 per cent. Deendayal port handled the maximum traffic at 33.13 mt, followed by Paradip port at 30.38 mt and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) at 18.56 mt. The traffic handled at major ports has been severely impacted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the major ports have been registering a year-on-year cargo decline since July 2020, suggesting a recovery in the country’s external trade.
