IR plans on completing 126 projects in the coming years

In a bid to become future ready, IR is planning to complete 58 supercritical and 68 critical projects entailing an investment of more than Rs 1,150 billion in the next few years. Of the 58 supercritical projects (of a total length of 3,750 km, costing Rs 396.63 billion), 29 projects of 1,044 km length, entailing an investment of Rs 115.88 billion, were commissioned last year. 27 projects are expected to be completed by December 2021, and the remaining two will be handed over by March 2022. Of the 68 critical projects (of total length 6,913 km, costing Rs 757.36 billion), four projects of 108 km length, entailing an investment of Rs 14.08 billion, have been completed (as of June 29, 2021). The remaining projects are targeted for completion by March 2024. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, IR is working dedicatedly to complete the projects that are vital for increasing the capacity of tracks. IR commissioned 1,614 km of doubling/third/fourth lines in 2020-21 and 133 km in 2021-22 (as of June 29, 2021).
