Train services restored to 70 per cent of the pre-Covid level

IR is operating train services at up to 70 per cent of pre-Covid-19 levels. Further, it plans to operate 133 additional trains (88 summer specials and 45 festival specials) over the course of the next two weeks. The average number of trains operated by IR before Covid-19 was 11,283. As of April 14, 2021, IR has approved 9,622 special trains, including weekly trains, which translates to an average of 7,745 trains daily. Besides, the national transporter is running 5,387 suburban trains (92 per cent of pre-Covid-19 times) with the maximum services operating in the Central Railway zone. Nearly 82 per cent of mail express trains and 25 per cent of local trains are back on track. IR has no plans to curtail its services and will continue to put trains in service as per the demand.
