The Ministry of Petroleum Natural Gas and Steel (MoPNGS) has started the pilot supply of diesel blended with used cooking oil (UCO) biofuel from the Tikrikalan terminal of Indian Oil Limited (IOL) situated in Delhi. This is the first of the 11 projects planned for the first phase of the technology implementation between 2019-20 and 2020-21. So far, IOL has issued 23 letters of interest for biodiesel plants with a total capacity of 229 million litres. As of March 31, 2021, IOL has received 51 kilolitres of UCO-biodiesel at its Tikrikalan terminal in Delhi. IOL has also started the construction of eight other biodiesel plants in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
