IR begins operations of Oxygen Express

IR has commenced the operation of Oxygen Express to meet the increased oxygen demand amid the surge in Covid-19 cases. The national transporter will transport liquid medical oxygen (LMO) and oxygen across key corridors. The first Oxygen Express with LMO tankers departed for Mumbai from Visakhapatnam on April 22, 2021. Another train started its journey from Lucknow to Bokaro via Varanasi to fulfil the requirements of medical oxygen. A green corridor has been created between Lucknow and Varanasi for the movement of the train. Using this corridor, a distance of 270 km can be covered by the train in 4 hours and 20 minutes at an average speed of 62.35 km per hour.
