The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recommended grant of coastal regulation zone clearance for the development of the seawater intake system at the Gir-Somnath desalination plant project. The scope of work involves laying of three pipelines, two for seawater intake with a total length of 2.2 km and one for reject outfall with a length of 2.6 km in the Arabian Sea from the desalination plant at Veravel taluka in Gujarat. The project is expected to entail an investment of Rs 740 million.
