DoT gives go-ahead for 5G trials

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has approved telecom service providers’ (TSPs) proposals for conducting 5G trials. The applicant TSPs are Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. These TSPs have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers such as Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT). Reliance Jio will be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology. The duration of the trials is six months. This includes a time period of two months for the procurement and setting up of the equipment.
