State cabinet approves implementation of Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode LRT in Kerala

The Kerala cabinet has approved the implementation of the Thiruvananthapuram light rail transit (LRT) project and the Kozhikode LRT project. The proposals for these projects will now be submitted to the union government. The Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode LRT projects involve the development of 21.82 km long and 13.33 km long elevated light metro systems in Kerala at an estimated cost of Rs 46.73 billion and Rs 27.73 billion respectively. The state government is expected to provide funds worth Rs 21.87 billion for the projects over a period of five years.
