The capex utilisation in the dedicated freight corridor (DFC) project has increased by 21 per cent as compared to last year. A capex of Rs 82.01 billion has been registered in the first 10 months of financial year 2020-2021, as compared to the Rs 67.83 billion registered during the same period last year, despite the adverse impact of the Covid-induced lockdown. In the first phase of the project, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited is constructing the Western DFC, which spans 1,504 route km, and the Eastern DFC, which spans 1,856 route km. A section of around 657 km has already been operationalised in 2020-21, and more than 1,000 trains have already run on this section.
