IOC to set up mega biorefineries in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh

IOC is planning to set up two mega biorefineries in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, as part of its transition from fossil fuels to multi-source, clean energy. According to IOC, these second-generation biorefineries, which will extract ethanol from agri residue such as wheat and paddy straw, are part of IOC’s plans to set up 12 biorefineries across multiple states, including Haryana, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. The biorefineries, which will have the capacity to extract 500,000 litres per day, will be set up at an investment of Rs 6 billion each. They will take at least 18 months to be set up after IOC takes possession of the land for the project.
