The Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, West Bengal government has laid the foundation stone for the Maheshtala water supply project. The project involves the development of a 40 million gallon water purification plant along with construction of a 35 km pipeline, jerry, pump, two underground tanks of 0.7 million gallon capacity at Maheshtala. It also involves construction of an underground tank of 2 million-gallon capacity at Budge Budge in West Bengal. The project is being implemented by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority at an estimated cost of Rs 3.99 billion and is expected to be completed by January 2022.
