The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has approved the implementation of the Thane light rail transit (LRT) project. The project involves the development of a 29 km LRT network that will run as a ring route in the Thane district of Maharashtra. It will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited on behalf of TMC. Of the total 29 km route, about 2.2 km will be underground and the remaining will be elevated. Around 22 stations have been proposed on the route.
