Government inaugurates new section of WDFC

The central government has inaugurated the 306 km Rewari-Madar section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC). The newly inaugurated section is located in the Mahendragarh and Rewari (approximately 79 km) districts of Haryana, and in the Jaipur, Ajmer, Sikar, Nagaur and Alwar (approximately 227 km) districts of Rajasthan. The WDFC project involves the development of a 1,504 km long heavy-haul freight corridor of double-line electric (2×25 kV) tracks in Haryana, Gujarat and Rajasthan at an investment of Rs 467.18 billion. It is being developed in three phases – Vadodara-Rewari (Phase I), Vadodara-JNPT (Phase II) and Rewari-Dadri (Phase III). The world’s first double-stack long-haul 1.5 km container train was also operated on this route.
