Solar power tariff records all-time low of Rs 2 per unit

In an auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for 1,070 MW of solar power projects, the tariff discovered reached an all-time low of Rs 2 per unit. Saudi Arabian firm Aljomaih Energy and Water Company and the Indian arm of Singapore’s Sembcorp Energy – Green Infra Wind Energy Limited – emerged as the lowest bidders by quoting a tariff of Rs 2 per unit for 200 MW and 400 MW of capacity respectively. NTPC Limited, which was the second highest bidder, quoted a price of Rs 2.01 per unit for 600 MW. It will be awarded the balance 470 MW of capacity under the bucket filling method. The earlier lowest tariff discovered stood at Rs 2.36 per unit in an auction of 2 GW solar capacity by SECI in June 2020.
