The Maharashtra government granted approval for the implementation of the Manori desalination plant project on November 23, 2020. The project is being implemented by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and involves the setting up of a desalination plant with a 200 million litre per day capacity at Manori in Maharashtra at an estimated cost of Rs 16 billion under the Swiss Challenge method. It will be developed on 25-30 acres of land owned by the state government and is expected to be completed in three years.
