IR will soon roll out a new zero-based timetable that is expected to reduce travel time of long distance trains by 30 minutes to six hours. It will be introduced once the Covid-19 pandemic situation stabilises. The new timetable is expected to help generate around Rs 80 billion per annum through savings and earnings. In the new timetable, around 600 trains with a low passenger load will be taken off the system whereas 400 train services will be either merged or upgraded.
