IR makes progress in railway line electrification

Reportedly, 18,065 km of railway lines was electrified during the six-year period from 2014-15 to 2019-20, registering a 371 per cent increase over the previous six-year period (2008-09-2013-14). Going forward, railway authorities are planning to electrify 28,143 km of railway tracks between 2019 and 2024. Of this, 5,642 km has already been commissioned (till October 2020). Meanwhile, IR has set a deadline of December 2023 to electrify its entire broad gauge network, of which 66 per cent stands electrified.
