National highway project awards double despite Covid-19 pandemic

The pace of award of national highway projects almost doubled during April-October 2020, as compared to the previous year, despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Reportedly, highway project awards for April-October 2020 reached 5,679 km, as compared to 2,982 km in the same period of 2019. The pace of construction of highways also improved from 210 km in April 2020 to 4,628 km in October 2020. This translates into an average construction of about 22 km per day during the April-October 2020 period.
