Parliament passed the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, 2020, on September 15, 2020. The bill seeks to provide statutory status to regulatory institutions, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), thereby improving aviation safety ratings. It also provides for keeping aircraft belonging to the country’s armed forces outside the purview of the Aircraft Act, 1934. Further, it has proposed to increase the fine for violations of the new rules from Rs 1 million to Rs 10 million.
