The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to withdraw its plan for privatisation of the state’s discoms. The move comes after a meeting with protesting employee unions which began an indefinite strike. The state government had earlier announced plans to privatise Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited. As per the agreement signed by the Uttar Pradesh power minister and finance minister, the state discoms will strive to improve power supply and operational efficiencies within the existing framework. Also, any privatisation proposal in the future will be made after taking the employees and authorities into confidence.
