The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department of the Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction worth Rs 5.12 billion for construction of 17 STPs in the Hussain Sagar lake catchment area in Hyderabad. This project forms Package 3 of the sewerage master plan for Hyderabad city. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has proposed the construction of a total of 31 STPs on a PPP-based hybrid annuity model in three packages, to augment sewage treatment capacity in the city. Package 1 comprises the construction of eight STPs with a capacity of 402.5 mld at an estimated cost of Rs 12.3 billion and an O&M period of 15 years. Package 2 involves the construction of six STPs with a 480.5 mld capacity at an estimated cost of Rs 13.55 billion and an O&M period of 15 years. Package 3 involves construction of 17 STPs with a capacity of 376.5 mld at an estimated cost of Rs 12.8 billion and an O&M period of 15 years in the Hussain Sagar lake catchment area.
