Chennai Metro Phase II comprises three corridors. In the state budget 2020-21, a sum of Rs 31 billion has been allocated for Phase II as share capital assistance, subordinate debt and pass-through loan assistance. CMRL will procure a total of 414 metro coaches in the next four years in a phased manner. Of these, 126 coaches will be procured on a wet lease basis. The project is being financed by AIIB, ADB and the Government of Tamil Nadu. General consultancy contracts for two corridors have already been awarded. Meanwhile, bids for a civil works contract for an 8 km elevated line between the Porur Junction and the Poonamallee bypass (part of the third corridor) have been invited.
