The Vadodara-Mumbai section of the proposed Delhi-Mumbai expressway is being implemented by NHAI in 13 packages under the BharatmalaPariyojana. The expressway will link the big industrial cities of Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Ankleshwar and Mumbai, thus benefiting the economy of these cities. As of August 5, 2020, seven packages have been awarded under the project, while the remaining six are under bidding. Besides, construction work has already commenced on five packages. Once completed, the expressway is expected to have a traffic flow rate of about 60,000 power control unit. The expressway is expected to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Vadodara to four hours from the current seven hours. Meanwhile, the central government is planning to construct smart cities, villages and logistic parks along the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.
