The 1,600 (2×800) MW Telangana Super Thermal Power Project Phase I at Karimnagar is being developed by NTPC Limited at an estimated investment of Rs 118 billion. With 85 per cent of the power expected to be allocated to the home state, the project will help the Telangana become power surplus. The first 800 MW Unit 1 of Phase 1 is likely to be commissioned by September 2021 and Unit 2 by December 2021. Phase 2 (2,400 MW) of this project has been deferred for now.
