NTPC Limited has decided to give a discount of Rs 13.63 billion to discoms on fixed or capacity charges during the lockdown period. The company’s board has also approved deferring the collection of Rs 20.64 billion fixed charges from discoms till the end of the lockdown. The charges will be collected in three equal instalments without any interest. The move follows a directive by the Ministry of Power to central public sector undertakings to consider deferment of capacity charges and provide a 20-25 per cent rebate on fixed charges to distribution companies as the latter’s revenues have been adversely impacted by low demand during the lockdown period. Similarly, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited’s (Powergrid) board has approved a one-time rebate of Rs 10.75 billion to discoms and state electricity boards.
