Construction work on the 21 km Usilampatti-Andipatti section of the Madurai-Bodinayakkanur gauge conversion project is likely to be completed by September 2020. Besides, construction work on the 17 km Andipatti-Theni section is in progress with completion scheduled for December 2020. The project involves conversion of the 90.41 km Madurai-Bodinayakkanur metre gauge rail line to broad gauge at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 billion.
