Supreme Court rejects APP’s request to extend deadline for emission control equipment

The Supreme Court of India has rejected the Association of Power Producers’ (APP) request to extend the deadline for installing emission reduction equipment by two years to 2024. The association had filed the petition seeking the extension but the court declined to provide any blanket extension. As per APP, extension for each project will need to be decided individually, based on project-specific facts. Thermal power plant operators have cited challenges related to funding and technical difficulties in meeting the 2022 deadline.
