As of May 31, 2020, the Indian shipping industry had a fleet of 1,435 vessels of 12.75 million gross tonnage (GT) and 19.37 million dead weight tonnage (DWT). Of these vessels, 976 were coastal vessels with a tonnage of 1.48 million GT (1.63 million DWT) and 459 were overseas vessels of 11.27 million GT (17.74 million DWT).
