India and Bhutan governments sign agreement for 600 MW Kholongchhu HEP

The governments of India and Bhutan have signed a concession agreement for the development of the 600 MW Kholongchhu hydroelectric project (HEP) in Trashiyangtse, Bhutan. This is the first time an India-Bhutan HEP will be constructed as a 50:50 joint venture (JV) and not as a government-to-government agreement. The project will be implemented by a JV of India’s SJVN Limited and Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation. Construction of the HEP will start once the concession agreement is signed and it is expected to be completed in 2025.
