DoT directs telcos and ISPs to block access to 59 Chinese apps

DoT has directed telecom operators as well as internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, SHAREit and WeChat. The names of the apps were issued in two lists. To this end, DoT has asked the operators to submit compliance reports immediately, failing which action would be taken. In a similar development, the Indian government has reportedly begun discussions on the country’s 5G roll-out plans and whether China-based telecom equipment giants Huawei and ZTE should be allowed to participate in the process.
