Centre awards contract to STEC for Mumbai Sewerage Disposal Project, Stage II

The central government has awarded a contract worth Rs 11.26 billion to the Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Company (STEC) for the construction of sewer tunnels from Don Bosco School Junction to the New Malad Influent Pumping Station (IPS) (Phase I) and from Goregaon Pumping Station to New Malad IPS (Phase II) by the segmental tunnelling method under the Mumbai Sewerage Disposal Project (MSDP), Stage II (Priority Works). Bids for the same were invited by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai in March 2019. Thereafter, STEC had emerged as the L1 bidder and Larsen & Toubro as the L2 bidder. The project is an extension of the MSDP, Stage I, which included works such as laying of new sewer lines, improvement of pumping stations, and development of new pumping stations, treatment plants and three marine outfalls. Works under the MSDP, Stage II, are divided into five phases and those in the first two phases are Priority Works to be undertaken at a cost of Rs 140 billion.
