IR will provide isolation coaches to three states – Delhi, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh – to augment their COVID-19 care facilities amid a spike in cases. Trains comprising 10 coaches and a capacity of 16 patients per coach will be deployed in these states. The first such COVID care centre has been deployed at the maintenance depot of the Shakur Basti railway station in New Delhi. Further, the Uttar Pradesh government has finalised 24 stations for deployment of isolation coaches in cities such as Varanasi, Jhansi and Saharanpur. The Telangana government has also sought 60 modified coaches to be stationed at three locations – Secunderabad, Kachiguda and Adilabad. The coaches will be used to treat very mild infection cases as per guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
