Funds sanctioned for rejuvenation of Godavari river in Andhra Pradesh

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has sanctioned funds worth Rs 4.16 billion under the National River Conservation Directorate for the Godavari river rejuvenation project. The ministry has approved the proposal based on recommendations by the Delhi Technological University. The project aims to protect the Godavari river from untreated water at Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. It will be implemented in phases. Phase I will comprise the construction of three STPs, upgradation of the existing STP, construction of interception and diversion structures and pumping station and laying of outfall drains. In Phase II, catchments which discharge into the Godavari downstream of Rajamahendravaram will be the priority.
